Laura Campo Deaño

About

Laura Campo-Deaño obtained her PhD in physics in 2008, awarded with distinction by the University of Vigo. Then, she moved to Katholieke Universiteit Leuven (Belgium) with a postdoctoral fellowship in the Chemical Engineering Department, Soft Matter, Rheology and Technology Laboratory. In 2011, she won an FCT postdoctoral research grant to develop her research activity in rheology, combined with microfluidics, at the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto.

She worked at the University of Oxford (UK) for three months in the Physical and Theoretical Chemistry Laboratory of the Chemistry Department. In 2013, she won an Investigator FCT Starting Grant related to studying the hemodynamics of swimming microbots. She has been an Associate professor at the Mechanical Engineering Department of the University of Porto since 2023.

She has published over 40 articles in high-impact factor journals with 56 co-authors and an h-index of 15. She co-authors two granted patents, three patent applications and one software registration. She has participated as a member of the research team in several research projects and has been the Principal Investigator of 4. She is currently supervising 3 PhD students and one postdoc. She has participated as an expert evaluator for the Research Executive Agency of the European Union, "la Caixa" Fellowship Programme, Paris Region FP, Research Foundation - Flanders (FWO), Czech Science Foundation and ACS Petroleum Research Fund.

She is co-founder of the Spin-Off company Rheinforce Lda and vice president of the Portuguese Society of Rheology (SPR).
