On June 5th, Tomás Schuller de Almeida e Graça Barbosa, a member of CEFT (subgroup of Complex Fluids), successfully defended his PhD thesis titled “Optimization of Fused Filament Fabrication (FFF) printing nozzles: Experimental and numerical approaches” under the supervision of professors Francisco J. Galindo Rosales and Paola Fanzio. The defence was held at the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Porto, and it was nice to see peers, faculty members, and family in attendance.
Tomás Schuller’s thesis research focused on a numerical and experimental study of the complex flow of polymer melts through 3D printer nozzles. It also provided an optimal shape, minimizing the pressure drop and maximizing the flow rate.
Congratulations, Tomás!
